Hike to the penguin colony of Ahuenco and boat ride on Chepu river

Parque Ahuenco, at the northern entrance of Chiloé’s national park, is a privately owned nature park of 800 ha open to the public. A boat ride of half an hour takes us to the other side of the Chepu river and from there it is a two and a half hour walk with our guide to the penguin colony of Ahuenco.

The penguins can be observed from a hut 10 meters away so they won’t be disturbed. There is enough time to walk around the isolated beaches, relax and enjoy your pick nick.

From the penguin colony it is another half hour walk to the beautiful beach of Tongoy. Here is where the National Park of Chiloé starts and several day hikes begin from here.

Important! To get to the observation hut it has to be low tide. This changes every day and your guide will be informed about the exact time of departure, early in the morning or later in the afternoon. Sometimes the tides have their own way and it is impossible to cross the beach.
